I was born in Somerset, PA, but lived most of my adolescent life near Berlin, PA. In 1989, I graduated from Berlin Brothersvalley High School. From there, I attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and graduated in May 1994 with a B. S. in Secondary Education – Mathematics. My first teaching job was at Parkside High School in Salisbury, MD. This is where I met my wife, Lisa. I earned my Master's in School Administration in 2001 from Salisbury University. In an attempt to get closer to home, my wife and I moved to Littlestown later that same year. My second teaching job was at Liberty High School in Eldersburg, MD. I taught only one year at Liberty because there was an opening at Catoctin High School. Catoctin is where my wife was teaching. In the fall of 2002, I joined the staff at Catoctin High School in Thurmont, MD. I have been there ever since. I served as the Assistant Athletic Director from 2004-2009. In May 2006, our family moved to Lake Heritage. My wife and I have two sons, 7 and 3.

The effects of this year's budget are being felt throughout the school district. One example is at my son's school. With the elimination of two teaching positions at James Gettys, class sizes were bound to increase. On "Back-to-School" night, I noticed there are twenty-five students in my son's second grade class. The class size represents a 25% increase in the number of students, had the positions not been cut from the budget. I believe students have a right to individual attention. When class sizes increase, students receive less individual attention. Several studies have shown the early years in school are the most formative for students in determining a like or dislike for school. With fewer students in a class, a teacher can give more individual attention and thus increase the likelihood of a more positive school experience.
