The school told people he was American loads of my white friends who get teaching opportunities like this who have unrelated degrees, less teaching experience, heavy non-english accents (not that this is a bad thing-but my English is more American sounding and therefore more "typical" than perhaps a strong Russian accent) Does anybody have any suggestions for things I should look into? Am I completely off-base with this whole post and none of this stuff exists? EDIT: It's so reassuring to see the diversity in this thread and you guys have definitely given me a lot to look in to. Thanks everyoneee:)
And now its March 6. A whole year since. I'm fortunate enough to be alive and well in comparison to others. I had my first job interview today. My mom caught COVID and recovered. But others such as yourselves aren't as fortunate and may have lost a friend or family member and I sympathize with you if you have. You may even be competing with others for a job and it could mean the difference between living and being kicked out. I hope you are doing ok. I kind of wanted to leave a monologue here, but I hope you are doing well where ever you are and hope you have a good day.

hey guys! i got into vandy ed2 yesterday! best day of my life 🥲here are my stats. I applied as a violin performance major (BM) to the Blair School of Music! Btw for music ik that stats aren't everything, it's more about your auditon, interview, and connections. Just wanted to share anyway. Demographics: white, female, Jewish, public HS, middle-class & dad owns a small business GPA: not on a 4. 0 scale… so 94. 652 W and 92. 522 UW. I think that's like a 4. 0 and a 3. 8 (on a 4. 0 scale) but idk haha. However, my course load is not really rigorous compared to most ppl. My classes: 9th- on level bio, honors english, orchestra, on level gov, french 1, health, algebra 1 10th- on level chemistry, honors english, orchestra, on level world history, french 2 honors, geometry 11th- honors anatomy/physiology, AP Lang (i got a 5), orchestra, on level us history, french 3 honors, algebra 2, yearbook 12th- on level physics, honors literature, orchestra, economics, precalculus, yearbook, AP music theory ACT: 32 (one day score & superscore lol) ik it's not high, but considering I started at an 18 (not even kidding) i was satisfied with it!
I've tried to find other jobs in Japan using my first language (Italian), but unfortunately I am nowhere near an N2-N1, which is requested for the job. If you have any other recommendations, know of other schools/eikaiwa that are looking for teachers and don't mind the nnes passport, please feel free to send me a message or comment. Thank you! R.
Please, don't banish me for this post. I am kind of desperate in finding a job in Japan. I am a nnes with bachelor's degree in English language (and Japanese), Trinity CertTESOL and I am 2 exams away from my master's degree in English language (and Japanese). I have applied to every single job advert I found online (gaijin pot, jobs in Japan, Daijob and many more... ). I've tried all the dispatch companies such as Interac, nova, amity and the rest but all I've got were rejection emails/no reply at all. The only one that took the plunge to reply was heart corp offering an interview. Until this very moment I've tried to stay away from it due to all the negative reviews from fellow teachers, so I was wondering if there's any teacher currently working for them surviving it? I was thinking about getting a student visa and start off with a part-time in loco, but I'm not in the fortunate position to spend my hard earned money for a student visa (considering that I'm on Furlough from my cabin crew job due to covid, and money is not great).
But at the same time, I desperately want a job right now so I can pay rent (I live with my boyfriend, and he is currently paying for everything since my part time job barely pays $500 a month. I feel horrible and the level of stress everyday is crazy. My feeling of worthlessness is crushing me and chipping away at my sanity every single day). But at the same time, it feels like if I get a job now--for example, a call center specialist--I will be too busy to study software engineering and be stuck as a call center specialist for many years. What is the right move to make? Should I dedicate my time to self studying for the next year with a crappy part time job, or try for a full time as a call center specialist? I'm very conflicted since I'm personally so desperate for a job, that I'm willing to take anything at this point, but my boyfriend is against it and says that I should pursue something more worthwhile (so study something for a year). Also, if anyone knows of a field that's high in demand where I can find a job more easily I'd love to hear about it!
