I am job hunting for a new job and looking to find a dedicated information security role, and I have been specifically targeting roles in risk management, GRC, and threat intelligence. I currently live in a MCOL city (Charlotte) and my salary is $107k. I am open to relocation and have been considering Richmond, VA and NoVa/DC area. However, the pay ranges (especially for DC/NoVA) have been much lower than I expected. Based on cost of living and experience, I would expect ~$110-115k for Richmond, ~$115-120 for either Charlotte or Raleigh, and ~$155k-165k for NOVA. However, when speaking with hiring managers/recruiters, they seem to be between $85-105k in Charlotte/Raleigh/Richmond and $120-125k in NOVA (which would likely be a pay cut once CoL was factored in). Is my expectations too much? What would be a more reasonable amount? Profile: 2 years as IT Risk/GRC lead for an IT team at a large financial company (current role), this job is mid-level and also entails secondary responsibilities around budget and IT operations/management.
